Is TSH the same as a thyroid hormone? +
No. TSH is made by the pituitary gland and controls the thyroid; the thyroid hormones themselves are thyroxine (T4) and tri-iodothyronine (T3). TSH is often measured first because it is a sensitive early indicator of thyroid balance.
Is TSH usually tested on its own? +
