Who it's for

Is the Muscle & Joint Health right for you?

  • You have persistent joint pain, swelling or morning stiffness that needs investigating
  • You have unexplained muscle pain or weakness without an obvious cause such as exercise
  • You're on a statin and have muscle symptoms — creatine kinase helps detect statin-related muscle problems
  • You have painful, swollen joints and want urate testing to help identify gout
  • You're having a first-time workup for suspected inflammatory arthritis
What it checks

8 markers, explained in plain English

This focused 8-marker panel screens the most common, treatable biochemical drivers of muscle and joint symptoms. Creatine kinase is an enzyme that rises when muscle fibres are damaged — from inflammation, exercise or medication — and is also used to assess muscle symptoms in people taking statins; lactate dehydrogenase is a general marker of tissue turnover that adds context to muscle and cell damage; rheumatoid factor is an antibody that can be raised in rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions; and urate (uric acid) can cause crystal deposition in joints, the basis of gout. All four markers are interpreted by a clinician alongside your symptoms to help identify or rule out muscle damage, gout and inflammatory arthritis.

FAQs

Your questions about the Muscle & Joint Health

Will this test diagnose my joint pain? +

This focused panel can help identify or rule out common biochemical causes of muscle and joint pain — such as muscle damage, gout and inflammatory arthritis. It is a screening investigation; a clinician will interpret your results and advise whether further tests or a referral are needed.

Should I avoid exercise before the test? +

Strenuous exercise can temporarily raise creatine kinase. We may suggest avoiding heavy exercise for a day or two beforehand — our team will confirm when you book.

What happens if a result comes back abnormal? +

A clinician reviews every panel before it is released. If something is outside the normal range, we explain what it means in plain English and recommend sensible next steps — which may include a GP appointment, a repeat test, or onward referral. This test is a screening investigation and is not a substitute for a clinical diagnosis.
